Social Media Highway Code for General Practitioners

Social Media Highway Code - for discussion

The RCGP wants doctors and other healthcare professionals to go online and share their views on issues about the use of social media, as it finalises the RCGP Social Media Highway Code.

The Code is a practical and encouraging guide for doctors and other healthcare professionals who use social media and want to ensure they get the most out of their online communications, while ensuring they meet their professional obligations and protect their patients.

A panel discussion at the annual RCGP Primary Care Conference October 3-6 is being combined with an online Twitter chat on the issues doctors face with social media. It will feature well-known GP social media enthusiasts, RCGP Chair, Dr Clare Gerada, and Dr Margaret McCartney. The live one-hour event is being held at 12pm on Friday 5 October (Twitter hashtag: #RCGPac). Ideas can also be posted on the RCGP’s Facebook page for social media discussion or in a dedicated Doctors.net.uk forum.
The Social Media Highway Code - first draft - is now available for discussion
