Atravesar el umbral. Crossing the threshold.

Crossing the threshold.

Vital disasters are doors that give us passage to new realities. We are not the same when we decide to cross the threshold. Something old is left behind and something new is offered in front of us. Whether the crisis is mediated by a serious illness, a terrible loss, or an unbearable pain, finally the situation forces us to make a simple decision: to accept or not the circumstance that is presented to us.

When an adverse circumstance affects all of humanity the same thing happens. Perhaps the difference is that it also allows us to realize that we are not isolated entities, families, regions or nations. The storm affects equally all those who sail on the same ship beyond surnames, philias or flags.

The famous Indian writer Arundati Roy reflected a few days ago in the Financial Times on the role of the Coronavirus in the current world situation:

"Whatever it is, the coronavirus has brought the powerful to their knees and the world to a halt, in a way that nothing else could have done. Our minds keep racing back and forth, wishing for a return to 'normalcy', trying to stitch a future on top of our past and refusing to accept the gap. But the gap exists. And in the midst of this terrible despair, it offers us a chance to rethink the end-of-the-world machine we have built for ourselves. Nothing could be worse than a return to normalcy.
Historically, pandemics have forced humans to break with the past and imagine their world in a new way. This one is the same. It's a portal, a passage between one world and the next.
We can choose to cross that threshold, dragging behind us the corpses of our hatred and our prejudice, our greed, our data banks and our dead ideas, our dead rivers and our smoky skies. Or we can cross at a brisk pace, almost without luggage, ready to imagine another world. And ready to fight for it.”

My friend Ángel González shared this idea with me and offered me the possibility of developing it by taking advantage of the publication of my book Arconte Enfurecido (Angry Archon) a few months before the events. It is not a coincidence that it deals with issues that we are seeing now and will see in the coming months. Eduardo Tornos will help us to spread the meeting through the Internet.

Reality forces us to be creative. Marrying philosophy, poetry, literature and dialogue is more necessary than ever. That is why we are opening a space to which we invite you.

We will talk about all this on Monday June 22nd from 21 to 21:45 and we will do it from the cyberspace, being the conversation open and being able to be followed from my Twitter account.
